Let’s build a RM7k machine…

Due to my current pc is getting “sick”, my dad is allocating RM6k for me to buy a PC. He gave me 6k, I add another 1k. So, yeah, RM7000 ( could be RM8000 if I work more ). Of course I wan a powerful machine so I can do graphics and video work more efficiently. *cough*and of course, games too*cough*. Hey, doing GACC’s Opening video now is a pain in the ass already ya know. Imagine my future animation works… No, dun imagine it. It’s evil, ya know. EVIL.

It’s time to prepare my old PC, “The Sarabee”, it’s retirement. The Sarabee will become an internet machine after this IF i’m not planning to sell it ( internet machine? well, simple web browsing, chatting, leech stuff from BT and IRC, etc etc ).

By da way, i only wanna buy the box, excluding Monitor, speaker, keyboard, mouse, etc etc.. So, let’s discuss the components one by one. The price in bracket is budget allocated for the component.

CPU (RM2500)

Having a hard-time choosing now. As you all know, Core 2 Quad is coming this November ( yes, “QUAD CORE” ). The current one I’m targeting is the Core 2 Extreme which ULTRA CHIBAI GOD DAMN FUCKING WHAT THE HELL I’M GOING TO MOLEST MY MOM expensive. It’s RM3800 for the bloody CPU only. Most probably I’m not getting this one. Oh, the slightly lower one than this is only RM2100. Yes, the price gap is RIDICULOUSLY HUGE where the clock rate gap is only 0.3Ghz. So, if I got extra cash and really stupid at that time, I might get Core 2 Extreme.

Wait wait, I’m still not done about the CPU. Here’s another thing. Yes, the coming Quad core. I dunno whether i should wait or just buy Core 2 Duo. Of course, the price is going to be HOLY SH!T when it’s released. But come on, it’s QUAD CORE! *bites fingers*

Another option is Xeon Processor. I wanted a work pc not a gaming box, remember? ( no, i prefer not to call this “workstation” ). Dual Core Xeon is only RM1400 ( RM2800 if i buy 2 ). I could buy a dual processor board and buy 2 Xeons. Yep, this is a poor man’s Mac Pro.

So, here’s my option: Be Smart with Core 2 Duo, Be Stupid with Core 2 Extreme, Be Patient for Core 2 Quad or Be Crazy with Xeon Processor”s”. Sorry AMD, I hated you since day 1 although you rule for the past few years.

MOBO (RM500)
This one hard to say. I can’t catch up with motherboards since they keep on producing better one at a really fast rate. I’ll try to get one lower than RM500.

Graphics Processing Unit (RM2500)

YES! nVidia Quadro FX Series!. Oh yeah, *moans*. Too bad it’s just HOLY SH!T expensive and TOO OVERKILL. So again, i had to abandon my plans on Quadro series, AGAIN!.

I decided to get XFX nVidia GeForce 7950GX2 overclocked card. It’s somewhere around RM2300, which is WAY WAY WAY cheaper than Quadro FX 3000. I know, RM2300 just for the graphic card might sound crazy but isn’t a RM7000 box is kinda crazy already?

RAM (RM1500)
Trying to get 4GB of RAM if possible ( preparing for the memory hogging Vista just in case if I’m switching to Vista ).

Sound Card

Salvaged from The Sarabee. It’s Creative Audigy 2 ZS and there no point of getting a real good sound card if I’m not planning to buy a new speakers. Any way, i dun really care about sound cards. My current one is considered to be TOO GOOD for another 10 years i think. Oh, come on! It’s just a sound card.

Hard Disk

Depends on the budget, i might salvage The Sarabee’s SATA disk or buy a new fast one. I’ll expect nothing less than 200GB.

Other peripherals, i dun really care much. Anyway, there’s always 40% chances that I’m not getting this RM7k machine at all, because shit happens. And SHIT always happens.
