Orientation 2007/08 : Me, Committee
Currently listening to nothing
Currently forced myself to write
OK. THAT’S IT. NO MORE DELAYING. I’m going to write something about this outdated event RIGHT NOW. Here I go.
Orientation Committee Camp
Ok, OC camp is basically a “camp” where they torture us future OCs so they can evaluate us. The first day was held in ‘Hutan Rekreasi’ where the other 3 days was held in MMU.
The first day is the most tiring because it involve lotsa ridiculous amount of physical activity… which is not fun at all. Basically they wanna teach us something from that camp… but they are not doing it properly and we all can see that everything is a mess.
The rest of the days – all in campus. Teach this, teach that, lecture this, lecture that. Some are really useful, some are really useless, and most are plain pretentiously stupid. The games are fun though. Watever.
Registration Day
Registration Day, the day where fresh bloods check into MMU. I was assigned to be at the orientation kit counter. The scene was totally different from my registration day 3 years ago. My year, almost everyone wears formal because in the ‘Acceptance Letter’, it is stated that they MUST wear formal. They did mention they MUST wear formal this year but it seems that almost everyone is ignoring it. WHY? I have no idea, it seem like they don’t care they got accepted into MMU. They don’t have this “paranoia” of screwing up their first day in MMU. Sigh.
Ok, this is the day where they got “coloured”. SRC or STAD made a MAJOR FLAW this year. Previous year, they announce our OC division AFTER registration day. Why this is a flaw? Because the ones who give the colours are OCs. If they’re a Green Mobile, of course they will give the cool people / hot girls into Green rite?
So yeah, 2 of the people who are giving out the colours are Blue mobile and Red mobile.
I’m Green 5 Mobile and my group is full of… passive people. I have no idea who to blame: Lady Luck or Colourers. Nevermind.
Later at 3pm, all the freshies are gathered at the main field ( this is where I found out that my group are full of lame people ). Orientation Week officially starts here after we release balloons to the air. Heh, the sun was shining bright at that time at we’re wearing formal.
Orientation Week
Orientation Week starts the next day. Let me start with my group first: They are the Green 5… and they suck. Again, who to blame? The mobile OC, the group itself or the colourer. They are EXTREMELY quiet and obedient. This is what the malays call “budak skema” is. It’s true at first they’re afraid of me ( yeah, they tawt I’m a lecturer… nothing surprising there, happens to all group ), but COME ON… most of you will laugh till you bleed when you hear that they’re actually afraid of me.
Ok, later they start to feel comfortable with me. They’re no longer afraid of me, but they are still… quiet. How do I make them noisy? I have no idea. I’ve tried everything. They made me talk most of the time until i nearly lost my voice before the orientation night. Me and my venue OC are completely clueless how to make them “hyper”. 2 or 3 members of the group are quite participative though but it’s not good enough to drag others in to make some “noise”.
Maybe I suck being a mobile OC. I dunno. Maybe I do SUCK. How come my group last year was superb and this year the opposite thing? I’m absolutely jealous looking at other green group where they are active and the mobile OCs didn’t take that much effort to entertain them.
The only time they’re hyper is when I combined them with Janet’s Green 6 and Sue Ern’s Green 2. Thank GAWD, at least they have some competitive spirit when we have small competitions with other group.
Ok, overall, my group SUCK. I loooove my previous Green 10 last year.
Next, let’s move on to the cheer. This year’s group cheer is unique and really intimidating. I really like Blue’s cheer : they have “Lu jangan lebih sama gua” line which is really intimidating. Yellow’s and Red’s cheer are weird but catchy. Sorry, I really don’t know how to describe it with words alone. Green’s… it’s short and easy. The green are focused more on counter-attack cheers where we make parodies of other groups cheer.
Orientation Night
LAME. You know how protocols can destroy an event. And this year, tight protocol just butchered the most awaited thing in Orientation Week. Although it’s lame, the freshies still like it but I’m really sad that they don’t know how good my year’s orientation night was. Bloody protocols.
Imagine this: To perform a group cheer, we need to have a que from the MC. That’s LAME. LAME!!! ARGH!
The group performance was quite OK. Blue group was the best but they got last since they broke rules ( played a song with the word “mother fucker”, plus some extreme scenes ). OC performance was good but the freshies are dumb enough not to understand the joke.
Overall
This year orientation is lamer than previous year. Bad planning by SRC. Terrible schedule changes. Horrible orientation night. That’s all.
Now, I need to write about the Clubs Registration Week.
A loud abnormal erratic individual with extreme interest in arts. A Maaya Sakamoto die-hard fan who worships Totoro. Blogs about random stuff that goes around him. Rarely blog, because lately he's just either too busy or just too lazy.

yups, we want the noobies to behave … thats why its boring and very tight protocol. yet still it is a good 8.8/10 score!
any suggestion on how to control them during performance night? it is good that most of them are malaysian, they still listen.
But if international? u have to bring guns just to control them, been to ISS election/ night? pergh!! very hard to control.
prevention is better than cure. we dont want the perfomance night to be some sort of clubs or anything.
