Kill the HYPE, Please
Currently listening to “I Do” by “Ilaria Graziano”
Currently desperately trying to end holiday nicely
We managed to send a Malaysian too space. BIG DEAL.
Seriously, KILL THE HYPE. I feel disgusted with all these hype.
Ok. Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor managed to pass all the training and stuff. Good for him. Something he can be proud of, but not to the level where Malaysians gather at Dataran Merdeka just to see him thrown off to space. If we have 1 trillion to spend, we can send A LOT of “space tourists”, is that a major achievement?
I like the fact that he managed to complete the training. Something we can be proud of, although there’s thousands of us will also pass the training if given the chance. I don’t like the fact that Malaysia is treating this as a major achievement for the nation.
I was at kampung watching this special TV shows with TV host who looked like they phailed their SPM. Uttering nonsense, keep on repeating the same “general facts” over and over again, and pretend to be impressed when their interviewees throw jargons at them.
Sending/Paying someone to space it’s not a big deal. Why is everybody keep on forgetting the fact that he’s hitchhiking a Russian vessel? We are paying someone to help us send a crew up there and talk big about it? Is that a really big deal? Sounds like we are trying to show off to the Singaporeans that we are more advanced than them.
Why can’t we stop spending money on asking someone to send our people to space, and use that money to develop our own tech? It really sounds like this country is a big “glory-hunter” without making pain efforts. Let’s not go to far as sending someone to space straight away. Let’s just start building our own vessel to send satellites, just like other countries. We are not helping the world at all.
Malaysian keep on saying “they’re more advanced” as an excuse not to develop our own space tech. What’s the point of saying “they are far more advanced” as an excuse if we are not even trying to push our tech? The Japanese push their own tech, the Indians push their own tech and even the Indonesians are pushing their own tech. Even mere civilians push their own tech to the space participating the Ansari X Prize.
This country is run by bunch of idiots. We can’t even have proper internet here. Ditched the proposed mag-lev train system. Can’t even make proper cars. Horrible government websites. And much more.
GAWD. Kill the HYPE, please. Grieve on our government’s financial waste. They could use the money to feed hungry people.

why can’t we berbangga with dr shiekh?
yes we hitched a ride (btw the ride is free. the gov spent the monies on the planes)
yes he maybe labeled as “spaceflight participant”.
but then, we sent someone to space.
ignore the tv1 ppl. Ch 588 is the real deal for the angkasawan news.
as i read somewhere , he will be longer in space than most of the first astronauts from US or Russia ever did – and he is doing medical research, not just lazing around here and there.
and who knows? because of this we WILL push ourselves to build our own rocket. The US did it because kennedy said so. Maybe after this agung will say “We shall send a man to the moon in a decade”. A royal decree.
btw, sending stuff with proven technology is cheaper than trying to develop from scratch. But we are slowly going towards there..
Edo: This is what I’m afraid of, people tend to get confused with what I’m trying to say. My bad. There’s is nothing wrong berbangga with Dr Sheikh. But, it’s just wrong that Malaysian are labeling this as a major improvement for the country. If we are OK with this, then this is extremely not fair for Karamjit Singh who actually did something good for the country also but got ignored by most of the Malaysian.
I really hope too that we will push ourselves to build our own rocket, but let’s start with something small first, like I’m improving our tech in different field first, like satellites? Make a really mature satellites then there’s nothing wrong sending it to space with other nation’s vessel. Or improve on something simpler first… like giving the citizen proper broadband connection.
Seeing this country’s laughable dedication towards technology, I doubt that we are going to make any progress in this space thing.

The Vietnamese has been to space since 1980s. And they don’t even bragged about it. *yawn*
It’s politics and the need to make ourselves feel better by lying to ourselves.

Edo: We are not really sure about them bragging or not since we don’t read Vietnamese newspapers. So, we don’t know that. Most probably they did brag about it, it’s just that we don’t know.

It’s going to be the general election seasons, soon. Did you happen to forget that? The angkasawan program makes good banner/bunting and campaign machinery. Politicians need to feed people SOMETHING.
And that something happens to be making teh tarik in space right now.
