DEATH TO THE DIRECTOR
DEATH TO THE DIRECTOR

I took the Directorship of GACC2009 when the original director step down from his post due to personal reason. I took it up because of various reasons: my experience with GACC since it’s foundation period, and sees that no one else in the club at that time is capable of pulling the task.

Reluctantly… I took the job.

Moral Support

I never had the confidence of running the show by myself seeing my reliable members are no longer around. I was worried working with my current committees who shows no enthusiasm unlike the previous committees. I almost loose all hope when the Merdeka Yamcha massacre happened.

Thankfully, as time flies everything changes slowly, for good.

Moral support.. has been keeping me alive. Moral support from the previous committee and of course, special loved ones. The amount of moral support kept on fluctuating. I receive some, I loose some, and there’s even a moment when my support went asystole.

My family however never shown any direct support over my involvement in this big project. The impression that I felt I’m getting was “my son is wasting his time with his friends and I’ve yet to see any good results coming out of it”. But towards the event day, I felt that… slowly I’m getting support from them. I don’t know, but maybe my lack of sleep and the stress on my face tells them that I’m serious?

I was extremely happy to see that my mom manage to come to the event and see what I’ve been working on, but I was definitely wasn’t happy with my father not being around when he said that he would be back from KL on that Saturday. More like sad, seeing that he went for my brother’s important event but not my important event.

Managing my Work

I had a hard time juggling my work and ultimately I repeated the same classic mistake as the old director: taking too many things by myself. While I can’t let go of design and website works to others, I can definitely let someone else handle transportation, booth management, band performance, deco team and more.

I can’t really focus on my design work this year and this year’s artwork felt as if it lacks passion. Not the first time as the first GACC suffers the same thing when I was psychologically unstable with my personal problems.

Towards the Event

I didn’t sleep for a dangerous amount of 73 hours driving around, running around, shopping around and more, followed by a 3 hours sleep on 2nd day morning. Pumping a lot of Red Bull into my system, I’ve also forgotten to take lunch or dinner. Afraid that I might collapse anytime, I was told to rest by many but I was worried with the event more than myself… which was not healthy at all.

I was mostly staying at my usual post, the noise station, battling with crowd “entertainment”.

When GACC ends, I felt good. I felt REALLY GOOD. I felt like I’ve tasted freedom for the first time, and seeing that the event was a success, freedom FEELS good.

I MUST THANK my good for everything assistant directors Guan Da, Navin and Siraj. Also I must thank my awesomely hyperactive committees who’s still on fire even after the event is over. Without my awesome committees, there won’t be any GACC. Definitely, this is the best committees I’ve ever work with.
