Scream FUCK YEAH out loud and the whole hall will agree with you. This is “Video Games Live!”

I know, I know. It’s a very delayed post but hey, I was lazy busy and exams were near. At least it’s better than nothing.

Video Games Live

This is the moment where nerd goes orgasmic like fangirls fapping to the New Moon movie. For those who don’t know what Video Games Live is, I’ll describe it to you in short simple sentence: AN EPIC MUSICAL ORCHESTRA ROCKIN’ AWESOME VIDEO GAME TUNES.

I’ve been waiting for this event for a very very long time. They’ve been touring around the world since 2005 performing cult classic tunes like Super Mario, Zelda, Halo, Warcraft and many more. Last year they landed on Singapore, tch. But this year, after much whining from the fans, they decided to rock out the Malaysian fans. And there they were, in the Petronas Plenatary Hall, performing right in front of me, witnessing the holy moment with my very eyes.

5 seconds before Edo looses his dignity

That’s a picture of me and the console guy. We got the “bestest” seat in the hall, riiiight behind the console booth. While it’s not the most expensive seat, it was the “NERD RAGE ZONE”. Almost everyone I knew who was going for the concert are seating in the same section. It was a very “lively” zone.

I was so entranced that various sources claimed that I was the loudest fucker in the entire hall. Amber who was sitting on upper deck was convinced that she can hear me screaming like a mad maniac.

But can you blame me for being overly excited over something awesome? We were reminded by the producer himself this: “If you see something that you like, don’t hesitate to scream, jump or watever.. by all means, please be crazy”. I did that exactly.

Expected, they started with a medley of memorable classics like Pong (yes, pong!), Space Invaders, and many more.

But I never expected them to play “Shadow of the Colossus“. Yes, “Shadow of the fucking Colossus”. I never saw that coming and NO ONE can. Seriously, not many people actually played the game but fuck, THEY PLAYED IT. The chances of them playing is like me going to a political gathering to hear the politician start cracking up some Gundam Unicorn jokes. I locked my jaws. I screamed. I destroyed my voicebox. I shat bricks.

Oh, I suck badly in that game though. I had to actually watch Khurshid play the entire game before I can actually finish it by myself.

STILL. It’s SHADOW OF THE FUCKING COLOSSUS.

Orgasmic Tunes

Ok, enough of Shadow of the Colossus. There are other epic moments too. Wait, I’m sorry. I must rephrase that sentence. “The entire show was the epic moment”. One by one they keep on throwing in awesome sauce.

Let me try to recall what they played that night, since this happened a month ago ( serves you right Ed, hope you don’t delay your post again >_> ).

Right after I nearly lost my voice screaming over Shadow of the Colossus, they rock the shit out of us with God of War. Epic, complete with choir and soprano.

There was Warcraft cinematic suite. Yeah, the Warcraft fan can die happily I guess, since they were screaming “for the horde, for the horde” like they’re on a suicidal quest.

Metal Gear Solid! Yes, the awesome Metal Gear theme is awesome, but that’s not the highlight of the session. Norihiko Hibino, the composer of Metal Gear Solid series was present to perform his favourite piece: Snake Eater theme song. Jizz, in my pants.

Oh, how I can I forgotten about The Legend of Zelda? I’m not really a fan of Zelda since I only played 2 of the games ( A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time. But damn, I love those 2 games ). We found out that the soprano that performed during the God of War piece happens to be an excellent flautist too, very very very good with the flute. She performed a flute solo of the Zelda theme beautifully.

On Stage Games

There were 2 on stage games to fill up the awesome gaps between the shows.

One of them was Space Invaders. One of the crowd went up stage to play the game. He became the cannon himself and he had to literally move left and right to play. Like Wii, just that he is the controller lol. The orchestra supplied the background music as he plays.

Another one is definitely one of the best Guitar Hero session I’ve ever witnessed. The player’s task was to achieve a certain score in Hard mode, but of course, Malaysian crowds are awesomely evil, and requested that he play on insane level. Awesomely, the player accepted the challenge and the crowd goes wild. And damn, he was REALLY good. Again, the best Guitar Hero session I’ve ever witnessed. It somehow felt like a rock concert, lol.

… oh, there was FFVII One Wing Angel. Cool, but overdone. lol.

Nostalgia

There are many others. Halo theme songs, Sonic the Hedgehog theme songs, Rockman ( yes, you can hear shameless otaku screaming okkusenman during Wily’s Castle theme. I’m included. ), Castlevania and of course, the awesome concert ended with a final piece that were marinated with awesome sauce: Chrono Trigger.

I felt nostalgic. When they played all these memorable tunes it didn’t remind me of the game, but instead it reminded me of the good old day of me playing the game. Me, sitting in front of the computer, playing those classics.

I manage to personally thank the producer and the composer of the show, thanking for performing Shadow of the Colossus specifically. T_T
